Their interests align particularly with the clinical governance pillars of Clinical Audit & Quality Improvement, Clinical Effectiveness, and Data & Information, with a focus on using robust data and evaluation to support evidence‑based practice and continuous service improvement.
Cara has a strong background in research, completing both her Batchelors degree (BSci) and Masters by research (MRes) at Imperial College London. They then went on to a number of research assistant positions in laboratory, field, and outreach in two laboratory groups at Imperial College. In 2019 they began their PhD on the impact of climate change on antimicrobial resistance in the environment, pending completion August 2027. Through these positions, Cara gained and developed key skills in identifying research questions, planning, and executing experiments and investigations, presenting complex science for a range of audiences, and writing scientific articles and reports.
Cara has extensive experience in working with speech and language therapy data through their role as a part time contract researcher for Christella Antoni Voice and Speech Services, starting 2021. During the five years at this position, they analysed anonymised clinical data, reported statistical results which have been presented at multiple speech and language therapy conferences, for example, EPATH and the Newcastle Voice Conference. They have co-authored two research papers to be published in scientific journals.
Research and Development Lead
Cara is a jack of all trades, with a wide range of creative and scientific interests including reading, baking, crafting, writing, performing, and research. This intersection of creativity and evidence informs their interest in voice therapy, where lived experience and measurable outcomes are both central.
They are motivated to be involved in research and development to ensure services are effective, inclusive, and responsive to patient need. Cara has a strong passion for EDI (Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion), shaped by their own intersecting identities (as a bisexual, gender non‑conforming, mixed‑race, neurodivergent individual) and by a commitment to supporting others with different lived experiences.
